Postdoctoral position in Integrated Circuit Design and Sensor Integration

Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) was established in 2003. It successfully created a large-scale infrastructure in Genova and a network of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories countrywide, recruiting an international staff of about 1100 people from more than 50 countries. IIT's research endeavor focuses on high-tech and innovation, representing the forefront of technology with possible applications from medicine to industry, computer science, robotics, life sciences and nanobiotechnologies.

The objective of IIT Center for Space Human Robotics (CSHR, IIT@PoliTo) in Torino, directed by Prof. Fabrizio Candido Pirri, is to make a step further in the study of the future generation of space robotics for human exploration.

One Post Doc position will be available  in 2016 at CSHR@Polito for highly motivated candidates.

The position regards the development and the engineering of a CMOS platform integrating innovative sensors at nanoscale for advanced robotic sensing. In particular, the activity will focus on the design of mixed-signal quasi-digital read-out circuits  (which can be directly interfaced to pulse-based UWB systems) necessary to interface nanomaterials deposited on top CMOS silicon chips to increase read-out performance and flexibility. The design of embedded-systems modules comprising Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) and commercial microcontrollers will be required for the validation of integrated solutions. The research activity will also include the development of CMOS post-processing techniques to enable the integration of the nanodevices developed atIIT@PoliTo Center on the top of CMOS silicon chips. Real experiments using the integrated nanosensors will be run to validate both the CMOS post-processing technological steps and the read-out integrated solutions.

A good knowledge of the most relevant nanomaterials for sensing purposes, mixed-signal CMOS design of electronic interfaces, the implementation of smart systems and packaging techniques are mandatory requirements.

Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Engineering, a Ph.D. in Electronics or Physics along with previous experience in implementation of interfaces on CMOS technology.

Preferential requirements are: first-author ISI publications, previous experience gained in foreign laboratories  and coordination of undergraduate and PhD students.

A good knowledge of the English language is also mandatory.
