Bio

Giancarlo Canavese was born in Mondovi' (CN) on 6th of October 1978. He carried out his diploma's thesis in Chalmers University of Technology in Goteborg and he graduated cum laude in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Torino in May 2004. After a six-month research grant at the Politecnico di Torino, Department of Mechanics, in January 2005 he started the Ph.D. studies in Biomedical Engineering. He got the Ph.D. in May 2008 at Politecnico di Torino defending a dissertation on the integration of cantilever and microfluidics technology for low biospecies detection. During the following two years his research projects at the Chilab-Materials and Microsystems Laboratory concerned nanotechnology applied to the design, fabrication and characterization of Lab On a Chip integrated systems for biological analysis and his research activity was especially focused on the studies of cantilever based biosensors in liquid environments. Starting from December 1th 2009, he is a researcher of the Center for Space Human Robotics of the Italian Institute of Technology – IIT, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino (IIT@POLITO). His research activity is focussed on materials, technology and design of sensing coating for robotic applications.
