Centre for Space Human Robotics Launches 13th January 2011

invito-Inaugurazione-CSHR-IITThe Italian Institute of Technology, based in Genova, has recently established a network of centers in research institutes throughout Italy.

Politecnico di Torino, international leader in material science, micro and nanotechnology, robotics and aerospace divisions, has been chosen as a partner to implement the “Centre for Space Human Robotics IIT@PoliTo”, that aims to become the landmark for research in human robotics applied to aerospace.

The opening ceremony will take place on 13th January at 10 am.

Seminar - Mobile robots for micro & nano manipulation

given by Mr. Christophe Canales from Imina Technologies (www.imina.ch)

The talk will take place on 10th of January 2011 at 9:00 a.m.  in the meeting room of the head office of the IIT@PoliTO Center, Corso Trento 21, 10129 Turin, Italy.

Just after the presentation, Imina will give a demonstration of the robots.

Imina technologies is a spin-off company of the EPFL, commercializing a new type of nano-manipulators compatible with any optical microscope or Scanning Electron Microscope + Focused Ion Beam.

These manipulators have the size of a dice and provide motions as small as 5 nm.
Several micro-tools can be mounted on the micro-robots, in order to perform a wide range of applications such as:

  • Electrical probing
  • Micro and nano manipulation
  • Optical characterization with an optical fiber

Several manipulation videos can be seen in the application section of Imina website: http://www.imina.ch/content/nanomanipulation

IIT has joined Piezo Institute

piezo2011

The Piezo Institute is the hub of European expertise and experience in piezoelectric materials and devices. It was launched in 2008 by the multidisciplinary EC-funded the 6th Framework Program of the Multifunctional & Integrated Piezoelectric Devices (MIND) consortium of academic researchers and leading European companies. The Piezo Institute is an independent source of advice and expertise, education and training, research and project management in the exciting field of piezoelectric materials and devices. Founding members have skills in chemistry and process engineering, solid-state physics, materials characterization and measurement science, micro and nano technology, MEMS, numerical and finite element modeling and the design and manufacture of devices. For more information visit the web-site of Piezo Institute: www.piezoinstitute.com
